Why it’s so important for children to make their own experiment

At our study group called “Young physicist” we try not only to teach physics, but also to develop each child’s mental capacity and contribute to his formation.

Introduction

In one of the articles I have already written that during our work at lessons we make a lot of physical demonstrations and due to this we win interest of our young discoverers so that they remember everything learned. In this article I will reveal one more secret concerning our work.

We noticed a long time ago that children’s love of knowledge is not over with the lessons. At home they want to put into effect received knowledge, to make something new, to try their hands in their own researches. They conduct again those experiences that surprised them, device their own variations or even make new experiment based on phenomena which they discovered themselves:

Robert Saakyants in his educational animation “Physics for the youngest” said that it’s better for a child not to try to discover anything new as he will anyway find already discovered things. But we don’t agree and support our pupils in every way, suggest them to bring their experiments into class and demonstrate their achievements. We start our classes with such reports.

Our demands for physics handmade experiments

  1. 1. The experiment must be based on physics (on any subject).
  2. 2. It’s necessary to examine the experiment, carry it out and explain what is going on there and why.
  3. 3. Experience must be shown and explained so that others could make it out too.
  4. 4. During the showing parents can help as assistants only. The experimenter must tell about it and answer the questions himself.

What use are home physics experiences and their reports at lessons?

Of course child develops a scientific thinking, gets acquainted with physics, learns to make an experiment etc. But I would like to mark the following particular moments:

  1. 1. The child develops his character and responsibility. 1. Because he must show patience and insistence for presenting even the simplest experiment.
  2. 2. The child learns to show his worth. 2. To stand up and make a report in front of his peers and get their attention are the steps to form and develop leader capacity.
  3. 3. The child becomes motivated. 3. Positive experience concerning the work he’s done opens in the child a deep interest in science, shows him that diligence leads to achievements. deti-izuchayut-fiziku
  4. 4. Making things together with parents. 4. It’s one more opportunity to spend a great time with your child, to make something together, support and help. roditeli-s-detmi

I encourage parents to support their child’s (children’s) love of knowledge.
